About us

Sporos Regeneration Institute is a small environmental education organisation based in Lesvos, Greece. We deliver courses on permaculture, regenerative farming, organic gardening, natural building and more. Our mission is the regeneration of the environment, of culture and of human relations. Through our plethora of educational tools we aim to teach people of all backgrounds and ages how to live more sustainable, healthier lives while caring for each other and mother nature.

Scope of Work

Sporos Regeneration Institute is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator/Farm Manager (VC/FM) to join their team on a voluntary basis. 

The ideal candidate will possess considerable horticulture/gardening knowledge and willingness to learn about permaculture and sustainable farming practices. We are looking for a proactive problem-solver that shares our vision and would be interested to join an organisation that is currently growing. He/She will be creative, passionate about regenerative systems, a confident tutor and mentor, enthusiastic about working with people from a variety of backgrounds, and enjoying farm life and living in community with others. He/She should be comfortable integrating into a community of volunteers who work hard together, are accountable to each other and our common goals and are dedicated to learning and growing together.


  1. Lead a small team of volunteers in daily tasks and seasonal projects at the farm
  2. Support volunteers during their stay
  3. Garden maintenance and associated tasks (planting, weeding, watering, etc.)
  4. Assist with volunteer recruitment, placement and onboarding
  5. Assist with exit interviews and recording feedback
  6. Maintain a positive, respectful, productive and enjoyable working environment
  7. Lead and/or assist with seasonal projects (infrastructural improvements, e.g.)
  8. Assist with transportation as needed
  9. Represent Sporos during events on the farm
  10. Communication – assist in providing garden tours, act as Sporos ambassador both on and off site, assist with creation of materials for publication/social media as needed. Be able to convey Sporos’ values to volunteers, partner organizations, and the public and demonstrate alignment with Sporos’ mission. 
  11. Make sure accurate records are kept and assist management with monitoring and evaluation
  12. Communicate regularly with Sporos team (in person, via commonly used other methods as needed)
  13. Seek to improve and innovate more effective and efficient ways of working.
  14. Ensure that all on site team members are working in a safe manner, following Sporos’ risk mitigation and safety guidelines
  15. Assist with other EcoHub projects both on- and off-site as needed
  16. Other duties as assigned/agreed

Candidate Characteristics

Required Characteristics

  • Fluent in English
  • Passion for and expertise in horticulture/permaculture/sustainable agriculture
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Experience and expertise in gardening, composting, permaculture, and related sustainability topics
  • Effective team development and management skills, including proven track record of creating and following procedures and supervising teams
  • Collaborative and efficient
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with all stakeholders
  • Compassionate, considerate, and positive attitude
  • Commitment and available to work with us for the duration of this contract
  • Computer skills sufficient to complete required data collection and reporting
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist with related projects as needed
  • Previous volunteer experience
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment on a daily basis. Tolerance of weather conditions, no severe plant/animal/insect allergies, general acceptance of farm lifestyle.
  • Valid European or International Driving Permit 

Desired Competencies

  • Conversant in Farsi/Dari, Greek, Arabic, and/or French
  • Knowledge of the non-for profit sector 
  • Experience working with vulnerable members of the community
  • Experience with community work

Additional Information

Full time: This is a live-in position. Volunteer working hours vary by season and generally include 6 hours/day, Monday-Friday. The VC/FM will lead during this time and complete additional tasks during off hours. Weekends are free.

Duration: 6 months with possibility of renewal

Probation period: 1 month

Earliest start date: Immediately

Compensation: Non-stipend position. Basic meals and shared accommodation at the farm are provided at no cost. 

Location: Ntipi, Lesvos island, Greece
