Climate Engagement in Practice – GREEN EU Hybrid Event at the University of the Aegean
On 31 October 2025, the Sporos Regeneration Institute, in collaboration with the Environmental Team of the University of the Aegean, hosted the hybrid event “Climate Engagement in Practice” in Room E of the Department of Oceanography and Marine Biosciences. The event formed part of the EU-funded GREEN EU – Building European Resilience to Climate-Change Impacts project under the CERV programme.
Thirty two participants in total attended the event, including a large number of university students from the Environmental Sciences Department of the University of the Aegean. The session highlighted the main findings of the GREEN EU European-wide survey and shared case studies from Italy, Greece and Spain, while Sporos Regeneration Institute introduced its ongoing work in permaculture, civic participation, and environmental education, as well as pathways for young people to join European programmes through internships and project involvement.
The first part of the event included a Q and A with an open dialogue that sparked new interest among students in the opportunities offered by EU initiatives. Many participants expressed a desire to learn how to connect European projects with their academic research. Through the event feedback it transpired how it is important to create links between academic learning, youth participation and practical climate action locally but also across Europe.
