Sporos has partnered with the Refugee Outreach Collective (ROC) to provide permaculture training to students in Dzaleka refugee camp in Malawi. ROC’s Global Classroom program offers post-secondary education opportunities to people experiencing statelessness, directly where they are. The Sustainable Agriculture course provided by Northern Michigan University seeks to address food insecurity in Dzaleka camp while providing practical training in cultivation and theoretical knowledge of sustainability concepts and movements. Sporos supports instruction through individual consultation and video tutorials, allowing students to learn the fundamentals of sustainable cultivation directly from the team on Lesvos. This partnership, our first in the area of international education, creates a window into similar projects across the world, through which we can learn from each other’s experience, share resources and provide mutual support in an arena that dissolves cultural, linguistic and geographic divides.
